What Is the 5301EL1001J Dryer Heating Element

The 5301EL1001J dryer heating element is a 240V 5400W electric heating assembly designed primarily for LG dryers and compatible with Kenmore and GE electric dryers. When your LG dryer tumbles but blows cold air — or takes multiple cycles to dry a single load — a failed heating element is the most common cause.

Unlike bare replacement elements, the 5301EL1001J is a complete assembly with metal housing, including the nickel-chromium coil, wiring, high-limit thermostat, and thermal fuse pre-installed. This all-in-one design significantly simplifies installation compared to heating elements that require component transfers.

Factory note: As a manufacturer of the 5301EL1001J, every unit from our production line undergoes full 240V testing before shipment. We use nickel-chromium alloy coils to ensure even heat distribution and a service life of 3–5 years under normal household use.

Installation Overview

Replacing the 5301EL1001J is a moderate DIY repair that typically takes 60–90 minutes. Always disconnect power before beginning.

Tools needed: ¼″ nut driver, Phillips screwdriver, flathead screwdriver, multimeter, camera (for wiring documentation), work gloves.

Installation steps (summarized for LG dryers):

1 Disconnect power. Unplug dryer or turn off circuit breaker.

2 Remove top panel. Remove screws securing main top to cabinet, slide top back and lift off.

3 Remove control panel. Uninstall screws securing control panel, lift tabs to detach, move out of the way.

4 Remove support bracket and front panel. Remove bracket screws, detach door switch wire harness, remove lower front panel screws.

5 Disconnect wire harnesses. Disconnect light switch harness and moisture sensor harness.

6 Remove front bulkhead. Remove mounting bracket screws and screw securing duct housing to blower assembly. Lift front bulkhead up and pull forward to remove.

7 Remove drum. Release idler pulley tension, pull belt off motor pulley, use belt to help lift drum out.

8 Remove old element. Disconnect bottom two heating element wires, disconnect high limit thermostat wires, remove screws securing element, lift out.

9 Install new 5301EL1001J. Insert tab on rear bulkhead into slot on element, position on mounting bracket, secure with screws.

10 Reconnect wires. Attach wires to thermostat and element as documented in reference photos.

11 Reassemble in reverse order. Replace drum, reinstall front bulkhead and panels, reconnect all harnesses.

12 Test. Plug dryer back in, run a timed dry cycle on high heat — warm air should appear within 2 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the 5301EL1001J fit my Kenmore dryer?

A: Yes — the 5301EL1001J works with many Kenmore 796-series electric dryers. Verify your full model number before purchasing.

Q: Can I install this myself?

A: Yes. The job takes 60–90 minutes with basic tools. The all-in-one assembly design eliminates most wiring complexity.

Q: Why does my dryer still have no heat after replacing the element?

A: Check the thermal fuse and thermistor. If either has failed, the dryer won‘t heat even with a new element. The 5301EL1001J comes with a high-limit thermostat and thermal fuse pre-installed, but other safety components in the dryer may also need replacement.

Q: How long does the 5301EL1001J last?

A: With proper lint maintenance and adequate airflow, 3–5 years on average. Regular cleaning of the lint trap and exhaust vent dramatically extends service life.

Q: Is the aftermarket 5301EL1001J as good as OEM?

A: Quality varies by manufacturer. Premium aftermarket options using ≥85% nickel-chromium coils and offering 1–2 year warranties often perform comparably to OEM at a lower price point.
